Filled with Pride for Annapolis

June 7th, 2024

Dear Neighbor,

🏳️‍🌈Celebrating at the Annapolis Pride Parade and Festival!🏳️‍⚧️

Yesterday, my family and I gathered to celebrate Annapolis Pride - a time to reflect on the journey, honor our diversity, and reaffirm our commitment to equality, love, and acceptance. Pride is not just a celebration; it's a powerful statement of resilience and solidarity, a reminder of the progress we've made, and a call to action for the work that remains. I am SO THANKFUL to have been joined by Delegate Nick Allen, Delegate Kris Fair, Sarah Elfreth for Congress, Delegate Heather Bagnall, Allison Pickard, County Councilwoman District 2 and the Angela Alsobrooks campaign as well as many members from Maryland Democratic Party!

Our community is rich in its diversity. We come from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences, but we are united by a shared belief in the right to love and live authentically. It is this unity that makes #Annapolis strong, and it is our diversity that makes us vibrant.

But while we celebrate our achievements, we must also acknowledge the challenges that remain. Discrimination, violence, and inequality still exist, and they affect our community every day. Transgender individuals, people of color, and LGBTQ+ youth often face the harshest realities. It is our duty to stand with them, to amplify their voices, and to fight for a world where everyone is free to be who they are without fear. As your Annapolis State Representative I have done that every day in office and I will always stand with you. Always!

Pride is a reminder that love is a powerful force for change. It is a reminder that every one of us has a role to play in creating a more inclusive and just world. Whether we are marching in parades, advocating for policy changes, or simply supporting a friend in need, our actions matter. Together, we can build a future where every person is valued and respected for who they are.

Pride Month with AACPL!

June is a month brimming with vibrant colors, love and acceptance as we come together to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride Month. It's a time to honor the struggles, triumphs and contributions of those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, pansexual, nonbinary and more.

At Anne Arundel County Public Library, we strongly believe in fostering inclusivity and promoting diversity, making our libraries safe spaces for all. So come on in and join us as we dive headfirst into the spirit of Pride Month! Get ready to explore a treasure trove of amazing LGBTQ+ literature, exciting events and an abundance of free resources available to everyone!

One of the most powerful ways to commemorate LGBTQ+ Pride Month is through literature. Our libraries offer a diverse collection of books that delve into LGBTQ+ themes, share personal stories and provide invaluable insights into the community's history and struggles. From timeless classics to contemporary masterpieces, our collection encompasses a wide range of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and memoirs. By immersing ourselves in these narratives, we can walk in the shoes of LGBTQ+ individuals, fostering empathy and understanding.

To honor Pride Month, we have thoughtfully curated book lists and captivating displays in our libraries, featuring LGBTQ+ authors and their remarkable works. Whether you're seeking LGBTQ+ romance, coming-of-age tales or thought-provoking essays, our collection caters to all interests.
