June 24, 2021
Hello Neighbors,
My favorite part of the interim is getting to spend more time in the community and meeting with constituents like you, and these past two weeks have been busier than ever. From town halls and site tours to Juneteenth and graduation celebrations my team and I have enjoyed going to events throughout the district and finally getting to see so many of you in person once again.
Please feel free to join me along with my family and supporters from around Annapolis and Anne Arundel County in the upcoming 2021 Annapolis Independence Day Parade (on July 3rd)!
If you are interested you can sign up by going to - https://bit.ly/D30_July4. I would love for you to join us!
A New Community Hub
The ARC Central Chesapeake Region has been advocating for equal rights for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities here in Anne Arundel County for 60 years. It was such a joy to attend the ARC’s grand opening and tour their brand new Community Hub, where they will be able to continue this mission. Thank you to the ACR and to all their staff for helping make AACo “the best place for all.”
Speaking with Youth Leaders
This past Monday, I had the joy of attending an Annapolis City Youth Town Hall. It was a great opportunity for community leaders to meet and hear from our youth. A huge thank you to Alderwoman Rhonda Pindell Charles for organizing the event, to the staff of the Pip Moyer Recreation Center for hosting, and to the many organizations who participated.
Congratulations to Graduates
I would like to extend a deepest congratulations to all the graduates from the inaugural class of the Annapolis Police Department's Positive Impact Program.
A beautiful ceremony was recently held in their honor that I had the privilege of attending. It was humbling and inspiring to hear from community members who have put in the work, overcome so many hurdles, and taken control of their lives. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait to see all that the future now has in store for these graduates.
Annapolis Juneteenth Celebration
This year the City of Annapolis hosted our inaugural Annapolis Juneteenth Festival and Parade. I kicked off the celebration by attending the awards dinner on Friday evening before joining many of my friends and colleagues in walking in the Annapolis’ Inaugural Juneteenth Parade on Saturday.
I am overwhelmed with pride to see our home town be one of the first in Maryland to recognize and commemorate this important holiday. Congratulations & thank you to the organizers for this brilliant celebration!
Remembering our Past
I recently attended the Lynching Memorial Rededication Ceremony hosted by Anne Arundel County Public Library in partnership with Connecting the Dots, the Equal Justice Initiative, & Coming to the Table.
This marker memorializes the five recorded victims of lynching in Anne Arundel County & is an important reminder of our community's past. It is only when we begin to recognize our past that we are able to begin the healing process.
Visiting Library Headquarters
As you know by now my family and I LOVE our public libraries. That is why it was such a complete thrill for my son, Chief of Staff and I to take a tour of Anne Arundel County Public Library headquarters.
Thank you so much to Director Skip Auld & the amazing staff for all they do for Anne Arundel county.
From online programming through the pandemic, to resources for everyday life, our Libraries are so much more than just a place to borrow a book. If you would like to support our libraries, you can make a special donation to honor their 100th birthday by clicking here.
Love Our Libraries
2021 is the Anne Arundel County Public Library's 100th anniversary! Our library offers a wide variety of programming and resources. In honor of their centennial celebration, each week, I will be highlighting one program, resource, or event that our libraries have to offer.
Join AACPL for an American Sign Language Safari Friday, July 2nd, from 10:30am - 11:15am. You and your kids will learn animal signs through stories, songs and fun activities. If needed, sign language interpreters are available upon request for ANY library sponsored programs (for more information click here). Pre-Register for the event here!
I would encourage everyone to follow the Anne Arundel County Public Library’s Facebook page to get updates on programs and new resources. Also, check out their calendar to find the perfect event for you and your family to enjoy!
Come Celebrate My Birthday with Me!
After 15 months of serving in office I am so happy we are finally able to come together! My very first in-person fundraiser will be next Wednesday, June 30th! There is still time to buy a ticket online! I would love for you to be able to join me along with my family, friends and supporters.
