🌞 A Very Busy August!

Dana Jones

We are less than 90 days from Election Day! I am so grateful for all those who have shown their support for me - from knocking on doors, putting signs up, and attending campaign events. Our campaign of bringing relief to Maryland families, lowering taxes, protecting rights for all, keeping education at the forefront, and being good stewards of the environment continues to grow in support. But campaigns are not won in November - they are won in the hot days of summer! There are several ways you can continue to stay involved and help our campaign:

You can sign up for any of those on our website, and be sure to follow us on Facebook to get updated on any upcoming events!

Speaking of upcoming events, join me and a very special guest, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski, on Tuesday, August 30th, 5:30pm - 7:00pm at the home of Scott & Rebecca Jenkins (address provided upon RSVP). RSVP here, I would love to see you there!!

Rotary Crab Feast

I had a fantastic evening last Friday at the Rotary Club of Annapolis 77th annual Crab Feast! It was so great to be back together for the first time in three years at the largest crab feast in the world. Thank you to everyone who came out & made this year a huge success, especially Wes Moore and Brooke Lierman.

Celebrate Our Teachers!

Please join Senator Sarah Elfreth, County Executive Steuart Pittman, Delegate Shaneka Henson, Councilwoman Lisa Rodvien, myself, and the Teacher's Association of Anne Arundel County for an Educator Appreciation Happy Hour on Wednesday, August 24th from 5 PM - 6:30 PM at Forward Brewing so we can say thank you for your service and celebrate the upcoming school year.

Please RSVP here & your first drink will be on us! Hope to see you there! Should you have any questions you can reach out to dylan@Sarahelfreth.com with any questions!

In the Community

Last week, we celebrated the life and legacy of Wiley H. Bates, who spent his life dedicated to ensuring that every young person in our community has access to opportunities to excel. My teammates, Senator Sarah Elfreth, Delegate Shaneka Henson, County Executive Steuart Pittman & our next Governor Wes Moore joined dozens of Bates Middle and Bates High School alumni at the Wiley H. Bates Legacy Center, Inc. to celebrate this beautiful legacy.

New Bus Initiative Focused on Student Safety

Every day in Maryland, thousands of drivers fail to stop for school buses and put the lives of children at risk. Anne Arundel County Public Schools hopes to halt dangerous driving around its school buses beginning this fall with the launch of a new safety initiative in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Government, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, and Bus Patrol.

The entire AACPS bus fleet of approximately 750 school buses, including those owned by contractors, is being upgraded with advanced safety technology that features AI-powered stop-arm cameras to detect violations and capture the license plates of drivers that illegally pass school buses. This video evidence is shared with local law enforcement for review and validation before a citation is issued. AACPS has also outfitted its buses with additional safety features such as 360-degree safety cameras for a complete view of activity inside and outside the bus, GPS tracking, and emergency response solutions. The program will launch on October 1, 2022, following a warning period and public awareness campaign that will begin with the start of classes on August 29. More information about the program is here.
