July 23, 2021
Hello Neighbor,
This past Saturday my family and I were able to combine two of my favorite things; Story hour at our wonderful library & the opening of the newest Community Pantry. As both a mother and a lover of the library, I truly appreciate the ability to go to a welcoming location where one can borrow books & media to educate their child and pick up basic essential needs. Yet another magical service provided by our library.
Additionally, as part two of our Summer of Giving, we have partnered with Discoveries Mama and Baby Community Pantry for a July diaper drive. This drive began Saturday, July 17, and will run through the end of July.
If you wish to contribute, you can bring your donation of diapers directly to Discoveries: The Library at the Mall OR you can make a purchase from their Amazon wishlist to be delivered directly to the pantry.
Love Our Libraries
2021 is the Anne Arundel County Public Library's 100th anniversary! Our library system offers a wide variety of programming and resources. In honor of their centennial celebration, each week, I will be highlighting one program, resource, or event that our libraries have to offer.
Join AACPL for Stuffed Animal Portrait Paint Night Monday, August 2nd, 5:00pm - 6:30pm You and your kids just have to bring your favorite stuffed animal, and AACPL will provide paint and a canvas. Pre-Register for the event here!
I would encourage everyone to follow the Anne Arundel County Public Library’s Facebook page to get updates on programs and new resources.
You can check out their calendar to find the perfect event for you and your family to enjoy!
Celebrating our Scholarship Recipients
I had the great joy of contacting the recipients of my 2021-2022 legislative scholarship last week.
These amazing students from around D30a do not only excel in the classroom but have also dedicated themselves to helping others. What an honor it is to assist these recipients as they continue their education.
Supporting Small Businesses
From the owners who brought you Brown Mustache Coffee, comes a great new coffee shop on West Street. Congratulations to Curate Annapolis and their team on a successful opening!
Senator Elfreth and I were lucky enough to enjoy some of their locally sourced coffee and a delicious pastry while there to present a citation. Keep an eye out for expanded evening hours with wine & dessert by their amazing in-house pastry chef!
Additionally we celebrated Red, Red Wine Bar’s TENTH anniversary. Congratulations to a favorite local restaurant that has thrived for over a decade and is a perfect example of what makes Annapolis so special.
Trade Union Job Fair
Alderwomen Rhonda Pindell-Charles and Lisa Rodvien, in coordination with Anne Arundel County Workforce Development, have organized a Trade Union Job Fair to connect residents with local construction trade unions.
The event will take place at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center August 4th, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. Please share with anyone you think may benefit!

The Loss of a Colleague
It is with great sadness that I write Anne Arundel County School Board member, Candace Antwine, passed on July 16, 2021. Candice was a beloved member of the community, public servant, Mother and advocate. She was a committed advocate for military families and children in need. Known for her efforts to eradicate bullying and a proponent of accommodations for students with disabilities. Her work will be remembered by the parents, students and teachers who she championed during her time on the school board.
Fellow board member Dana Schallheim has put together a GoFundMe page to assist Candace's family with funeral expenses. If you would like to make a donation you can do so here. A service will be held to honor and celebrate her life on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Hope Church in her hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers and close to your heart.
You can follow me on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to learn about volunteer opportunities, community resources, COVID-19 updates, and much more. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always contact my office by email at Dana.Jones@house.state.md.us or by phone at 410-841-3211.
