A Fall Harvest of Events 🍂

September 22, 2023

Dear Friend,

Join me for an Evening by the Water!

Another quick reminder that my An Evening on the Water fundraiser is only two weeks away on October 5th! Speaker Adrienne Jones will be joining us for a wonderful evening at the second location of the Annapolis Maritime Museum, their new Merrill Family Pavilion.

The address for the event is 7300 Edgewood Road, Annapolis, Maryland 21403. As this is my first fundraiser of the election cycle, and my only fundraiser this year, it would mean a lot to have you join us.

The reception begins at 6:00pm, and full details can be found in the flier. You can reserve your spot here!

2023 Treaty of Paris Celebration

Great to join my friend, and Naval Academy history professor, Mark Croatti, this weekend to celebrate the 240th Anniversary of the signing of the 1783 Treaty of Paris! Many don't know that the treaty that ended in the War of Independence, was ratified right here in Annapolis! The day included speakers, re-enactments, and historical exhibits. A huge thank you to the Brown family that donated a number of documents from this period, and to all the participants that made the event possible!!

Protecting our Freedom to Read

Over the past few years, there has been a concerted country wide initiative to ban books and control the information that we have access to. The motive behind this push is to prevent the accurate teaching of history, and to erase the stories of so many communities that have gone unheard for so long.

In June, I was happy to see Governor Moore sign on to a joint letter, along with other Democratic Governors, condemning book bans. As they write, “If we are to continue striving for a more perfect union, then we must carry out our duty of ensuring future generations understand our full history as well as the contributions of all its people. That includes learning from our mistakes. These lessons are vital to preparing our youth to fully engage in a free and fair democracy”, I couldn't agree more with this view.

We cannot allow our society's education to be impacted by the extreme views of a small minority. Maryland has already seen a significant increase in ban attempts, with dozens so far this year alone. I applaud the clear leadership from many on this issue, which is why I feel it is so important for the Maryland Legislature to act proactively to protect our children's freedom to read.

Free Covid-19 Tests Mailed to Your Door

In response to a recent uptick in cases, President Biden is reviving a program to mail free rapid coronavirus tests to Americans.

Starting Sept. 25, people can request four free tests per household through covidtests.gov. Officials say the tests are able to detect the latest variants and are intended to be used through the end of the year.

Join County Executive Alsobrooks on Sept. 28th

I’m so incredibly proud to support Angela Alsobrooks in her historic campaign for the U.S. Senate, and today I’m asking you to join us.

Angela is having a fundraiser in downtown Annapolis on Thursday, September 28th at 6:30pm, and I’m hoping you’ll be able to attend. Please click here to RSVP for the event.

Angela is a proud, lifelong Marylander and as County Executive of Prince George's County, she has focused on creating jobs and growing economic opportunity, investing in education, expanding access to health care, and making sure people are safe. I know she will bring that experience to Washington, and advocate for all Marylanders.

So please, will you help my friend Angela Alsobrooks deliver real, tangible change to Maryland’s communities by making a contribution and attending the September 28th event in Annapolis? With your help, we’ll make history and elect the best candidate for the job.

Hope you can make it!
